Elizabeth II became queen in February 1952 and reigned for 70 years, the longest of any British monarch. Her young portrait was used on coins and medals in the early years of her reign. The legend is in English rather than the Latin used on British coins, and the reverse is decorative, so this is a souvenir medal rather than a copy of a circulating coin.
