Constantine was proclaimed emperor by his father’s troops at York in 306, but at first he was recognised only as Caesar, a junior emperor. This coin dates from those early years, before he went on to become sole ruler and the first Christian emperor. Moneta’s scales stand for honest weight and her cornucopia for prosperity.
